Title: NATURAL INHJBITORS FOR CORROSION OF MILD STEEL IN ACIDIC MEDIUM
Authors: OGUNSOLA, STEPHEN JIDE
Issue Date: 9-Jul-2013
Abstract: The inhibition effectiveness of Lipton tea bag, cigarette and lemon grass solutions as natural inhibitors in controlling corrosion of mild steel in acid medium has been investigated by gas evolution method or gasometric technique in the absence and presence of the corrosion inhibitors at different time interval. The results showed that the corrosion inhibitive effects of these natural inhibitors were found to vary with different time interval and different volume of the inhibitors. It was found generally that the corrosion inhibition behaviour of Lipton tea bag, cigarette and lemon grass was greater in hydrochloric acid than sulphuric acid medium. Also, it was found that lemon grass solution has the greatest inhibitive effect in both hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid, but the inhibitive effect is better in hydrochloric acid than sulphuric acid. So lemon grass solution can be used as a good inhibitor for preventing mild steel material.
