Title: THE PRODUCTION OF FLOATING FlSll FEED USING lVIELON SHELL AS A FLOATER TO AID FLOATATION

Abstract: A total of sixteen (16) feeds: Diets 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15 and 16 were formulated, containing different percentage inclusion of melon shell with the exception of Diet 1. The melon shell was subject to three (3) different treatments; ground, crushed and uncrushed. The first feed, Diet 1 which served as the control feed had no percentage melon shell inclusion. Diets 2,3,4,5 and 6 had 5%, 10%, 15%,20% and 25% melon shell inclusions in grounded form respectively. While Diets 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 had 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% melon shell inclusions in crushed ~orm respectively and Diets 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 had 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% melon shell inclusions in uncrushed form respectively. The diets were all subjected to floating trials and their' percentage floatation over time assessed. This was carried out after the feeds were sun- i dried and their percentage moisture contents analysed. Diets 7, 8 and 11 had the highest percentage floatation over time at 40%, 30.3% and 40% floatation per 10 pellets used for .. the floating trials assessed over 60minutes respectively.
