Abstract: This study was designed to investigate the extent of safety management and practices in Federal University of Technology, Minna Mechanical Engineering workshop with the view of identifying possible ways of ensuring a higher standard of ergonomics for the technical staff .. It examines the various hazards in the workshop. To obtain information for the study, four research questions were drawn on the areas of the availability of safety equipment and devices, extent of compliance with occupational Health and Safety standard (OHS), extent of safety enlightenment activities and the possible ways of promoting safety management and practices in the workshop. The study revealed among others that safety equipment and devices are not adequate, and the flouting of OHS Standard by technical staff. Based on the findings, it was recommended that adequate and relevant safety equipment and devices should be provided, ensure strict compliance with OHS Standard, and establish a functional safety unit in the workshop.
