Title: KINETICS OF ACID HYDROLYSIS OF MILLET COBS FOR GLUCOSE PRODUCTION

Abstract: The objective of this work is to investigat~ ,the kinetics of acid hydrolysis of cellulose from . . I millet to obtain glucose. The cellulose used was obtained from millet cob, and the sal,n ple , ! was collected from Gurara Village, Bida road Niger State. Pretreatment- like milling, ; removal of extractives and lignin isolation was carried out to increase the accessibility of ,! . "~ hydrolyzing acid to the cellulose. Hydrolysis was carried out using concentrated sulphuric ~, .! acid of molarities ranging from 4 M t07 M and temperature ranging from 65°C to 8Q °c. ·1 Glucose yield produced were found to increase with acid concentration at ,all temperatures investigated. A kinetic analysis showed that the rate of glucose production can·· be described by a first order kinetics with activation energy of 55.4789 KJ/gmol.
