Title: 1 AN EVALUATION STUDY OF THE PRESERVATION AND CONSERVATION OF RECORDS AT THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES, IBADAN.

Abstract: This research work on the preservation and conservation of records at the National Achieve Ibadan was carried out to infuse positive changes in this archive. The study covers areas of preservation and conservation of record, the causes of records deterioration, strategies used in controlling the agents of deterioration in the National of combating this ugly menace. The method of data collection for this research was the use of questionnaire, which covers fifteen respondents. Interviews and direct observation were also employed in the data collection. The questionnaire was composed of section A to F carefully cutting across the areas of background of the respondent, the maintenance and conservation culture, the ICT compliance, anti-theft and fire control measures and lastly management problems and suggestions by respondents to improve the management of the national archive Ibadan. The result of the analysis revealed that human factor, physical factor, biological factor and management problems are responsible for the deterioration of records at the national archive Ibadan. There is an urgent need for adequate training of the staffs, upgrading of equipments use in the preservation and restoration section, adequate funding by the federal government and enlighten menprogram is equally essential.
