Title: 1 INFORMATION LITERACY AS A DETERMINANT OF JOB PERFORMANCE OF MEDIA PRACTITIONERS

Abstract: This study focused on information literacy skills as a determinant of job performance of media practitioners; it provided an analysis of the information literacy skills at the disposal of media practitioners in Niger State and discussed the degree at which information literacy go to determine the job performance of media practitioners in relating with and educating their target audience. A survey research method was adopted with a sample size of 71. A Questionnaire was the main research instrument used to collect data from the respondents. 71 copies of the questionnaire were administered with only 65 filled and retrieved, yielding a response rate of 91.5%. Data collected was analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage. The findings reveal that media practitioners are able to access and evaluate information due to the information literacy skills acquired through the internet which was discovered to be their major source of information.However, acquiring information literacy skills should be a continuous process. However, acquiring information literacy skills should be a continuous process.
