Title: RECOVERY AND PURIFICATION OF £UM FROM THE WATER SLUDGE OF PLANT TREATMENT (A CASE STUDY ON IMPRESIT WATER TREATMENT PLANT, CHANCHAGA, WATER WORKS MINNA, NIGER STATE NIGERIA)

Abstract: The research work was carried with the objective of recovering alum from alum .sludge which is a waste product from water treatment plants. The inpersit water treatment was my case study. Acid extraction method was employed in recovering the alum. -During the. alum recovery process from alum. sludge, the sludge from the water treatment plant containing aluminum hydroxide was acidulated with tetraoxosulphate (VI) acid to produce alum from hydroxide. The sludge was, acidulated until a pH of 2. was achieved or gotten. Then it was left to settle down for 2-days. The volumetric recovery was about 61 %. The aluminum content 9f the alum ,solution w. as 0.46~tr(g1L while that of the recovered alum was 0.357m&fL for the unfiltered recovered alum solution and 0.379mgjL for the filtered recovered alum solution. This indicates that the aluminum content of the recovered alum was between 76% and 80%.
