Abstract: This work is designed to discover the reading culture of children and how it affects the development of librarianship in Minna: Case study of Mawo International Secondary School and Government Day Secondary School, Minna. Since we all know that reading culture is an act that is being cultivated and it is better cultivated when one is young. I decided to identify the reading culture of children, taking case study of Mawo International Secondary School and Government Day Secondary School, Minna. Due to the population of those schools, I decided to take a sample of the schools and study them through the administering of questionnaires. 200 copies of questionnaires were administered and were all returned which were analyzed and presented in a tabular format. It was presented in simple percentage and interpretations were made. The following results were obtained- about 43% (86) of children don’t visit there school library regularly and when they do, about 50% (100) of them go during their free periods. The reason (s) why they read was also sort for and about 80% (160) of the respondents read only to pass their examinations. Watching television was found to be one of the biggest distractions to reading and others were also highlighted. Some of the problems discovered in the study was that our libraries have unqualified staff and other more problems. It was also discovered that our libraries could be a better place and a place of attraction, if and only our reading culture can be revitalized and resuscitated. Solutions were also provided, on how to improve the reading culture of children.
