Abstract: .A:BsrRACJr ========== . The e:x:periments were conducted to study ihe feasibility of producing sandjlaper using locally available raw materials,' such as mixture of broken bottles and laterites; starch as adhesive, charcoal as bacikground and papers and fabrics materials as substrates. From the results of sieve analysis, the following particle sizes were obtained i.e 06.}t1m172l~ )1m, 30gUm and 421lm and only 300Nm and 425jfm, were used for gt'ading while others were disc~ed. Notable among the analysis carried. out was the test for the strength of adh:.esive and its effectiveness when used as bin.der. ever, the major analytical work was on testing the performance of sandpS1?er and its effectiveness and as *ell comparing it wi th this commercial type of sandps,per:respecrt1vely. Therefore, at the end of this fMrVey, it was found out thatr the sandpa.per produced using local ,; ,. raw materials can perform equally well ~ th the commercial end type when , . . an appropriate mixtUre of adhesives and, correct materials are used as substrate". . , , .:ri1 the pefform~ce test carried out, the resUlt of this is being represented on a histograph shoWing the area of the work pieces covered as it increase progressively :for a particular sandpaper used, and this was done both for paper and fabric materials respectively. Finally, it was also discovered that, .the mo~e viSCOUS; fue adhesive solution, the stronger its binding strength. However, from , . . . < .
