Title: INHIBITIVE INFLUENCE OF KOLANUTEXTRACT AND ERYTHROMYCIN (ANTIBIOTIC) ON THE CORROSION OF MILD STEEL IN DILUTE CONCENTRATIONS OF HYDROCHLORIC ACID

Abstract: The inhibitive effect of Kolanut (Cola Acuminata) and erytI:ll'omyci~ (antibiotics) extract on the .corrosion of mild steel in dilute concentrations (0.2 M, 0.4 M, 0.6 M, 0.8 M) of hydrochloric acid at foehn temperature (20 0 C) has being studied. The study was carried out c , ' using gravimetric or weight loss technique, the kolanut and erythro,mycin was obtained by , l.e aching o!lt using tb,e dilute concentration of the hydrochloric acid. The initial weight of the . mild steel coupons was taken after washing, degreasing, and drying in acetone. The finally ' .. weight of the mild steel c()uponswas taken after every 24 hrs of exposure in the corrosive media. The result and graph of weight loss against time plotted showed that 1 g of erythromycin inhibits more than equal gram bf kolanut extract. However, the combined inhibitor (kolanut and erythromycin) inhibits more than using kolanut extract alone. This , . , . . , research. work has proved that erythromycin shows higher inhibitioq effici~ncy than kolanut . but kolanut ef{tract shows a high corrosion inhibition and is recoinmended as an environinenta,lly friendly inhibitors.
