Abstract: Bioethanol is an alcohol made by fermenting the sugar component of biomass. Today it is made from sugar and starchy crop. The aim of this research work is to critically study the pl"oduction process of Bioethanol from' non-food source labolatorically, and to improve on the use of Bioethanol for fuel in Nigeria. For this purpose; s(l'Y dust was used as the -feed stock, and is the glucoses polymer known as cellulose or .stClf,ch;The major ancillary . c..ntm-SI6yt }'; '~~14f::'···.·· operation carried out to achieve this conversation were acid;'!Jreparation and yeast ,.~", ;" ">i, f '·c· --.~~---. .. propagations, other important operations were starch liquefaction'·· and the fermentation of . ,. the ,resulting sugar, at the hydrolyzing stage. It gives a colourless coloration on addition of iodine after 120 minutes, signifying the absence of cellulose or total conversion of 'starch to glucose, fermentation wasl carried out for 10 ·hours ,f~riod. Distillation was carried out to purify the ethanol obtained from the fenrientation;theethanol obtained fro~ this process ~ 5tl. The yield of the Bioethanol producedsho,:s that saw dust is actually a viable Source ofBioethanol that can effectively'serve as an alternative for fuel. '
