Title: KINETCS OF ACID HYDROLYSIS OF RICE HUSK FOR GLUCOSE PRODUCTION

Abstract: Acid hydrolysis of Rice husk for the production of glucose. The objective of this project is to convert the hemicellulose and cellulose components in Rice husk to glucose by Acid hydrolysis. The hemicellulose component of Rice husk is qualitatively hydrolsed to glucose with sulphuric acid at various acid concentration of 5 Normal, 7.5 Normal and 10 Normal and various temperature up to 800 C. The pretreatment of Rice husk was treated with diethylether to remove the extractives. The hydrolysis rate follows a first order kinetics with the activation energy (Eact) of 58. 51KJ / g mole which is higher than the reported literature value of 25.7KJ/g- mole (Livenspell et al).
