Title: PERFOMANCE EVALUATION OF THE THERMAL HYDRODEALKYLATION REACTOR (THDA) USING A CHEMICAL PROCESS SIMULATOR, CASE STUDY OF KADUNA REFINING AND PETRO-CHEMICAL. COMPANY (KRPC) LTD.

Abstract: This research work, performance evaluation of Thermal Hydro Dealkylation Reactor of KRPC Kaduna was carried out with the aim of evaluating the plant's performance. To achieve this, the operating parameters for the year 1993 when the plant was at its optimum performance and at 2005 were evaluated using a chemical engineering process simulator (HYSYS). Comparison of the 1993 operating parameters with the 2005 operating parameters shows that the percentage conversion was 97.37% in 1993 and 91.83% in 2005. Also the extent of reaction was 28.96 kgmole/hr in 1993 and 25.19 kgmole/hr in 2005. This shows a drop in the performance of the reactor. It is recommended that research work should be carried out to determine the performance of other downstream and upstream of THDA unit and turn around maintenance should be carried out on the THDA reactor.
